Our 2017 Kona IRONMAN military division World Champion didn’t discover triathlon until the age of 24, when he competed in his local Columbus, MS base triathlon on a mountain bike. But it wasn’t until Brett moved to Charleston, SC to fly C-17s that he found a group of guys who were faster than him and who taught him about proper training and racing. “It was a fun little game because I would have to manage sleep, eating, time zones, and of course training,” Brett describes. “I would get a workout in before we left, fly all night to Ramstein, Germany, sleep for a bit and go to their pool before heading downrange.” When he received orders to fly UAVs at Beale AFB, Brett was reading “The Well Built Triathlete” by Bay Area coach Matt Dixon. Brett reached out to Matt and within a year began working together one-on-one. It’s a partnership that had led to great results: besides his win at the Kona IRONMAN, Brett is a two-time IRONMAN 70.3 Superfrog champion (2016, 2017) and three-time IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship qualifier.
